About Learn Russian 101

Hi!

Thank you for dropping by. My name is Valeria and I’m the author and creator of all the websites of Learn Russian 101 network.

As you might have guessed, I’m Russian. Until 2013, I lived in Saint-Petersburg, but then my life took a very different turn and now I live in France.

Learn Russian 101 started as one site in 2010 (it was called Ruslangia), when I tried to make my own version of still existing at the time podcast SpanishPod that helped me a lot when I was learning Spanish on my own. I wanted to do something similar and possibly better for those learning Russian.

It grew with time, I started having more ideas of what I could do with it, and today the network includes 8 websites where Russian learners from beginner to advanced can find free and useful tools and content to learn and practice, to find Russian friends, and to get acquainted with the Russian culture. Some of the sites run in three languages: English, Spanish and French.

When I started, my English was quite bad and I did not even have translations for the lessons I was creating. Same was with Spanish and French, those languages I barely spoke at all as I just started learning them at that time. Many people helped me along the way and some continue doing it. I would not be able to do as much without that help and I’m very thankful to all of them. I’m especially thankful to Luis Iglesias for his continuous and consistent help with Spanish translations from the very beginning. I’m also very thankful to my husband who took some of the the responsibility for the French translations and provided me with tons of good ideas on how I could improve at every stage.

Throughout my life, I always preferred to learn on my own rather than attend classes. I learned so much outside of conventional schools that it confirmed me in my belief that we can build the world where the education is free, available to everybody, and supported by good will of those who have such an opportunity. I decided to make my sites an example of it.

Learn Russian 101 was always a baby of love, for more than 10 last years I dedicated countless hours to creating new content, improving experience, developing new functionalities and simply maintaining the sites. But what really allows me to continue is the support of the readers, in whatever form it comes.

If you have comments or suggestions, if you noticed some errors or bugs, don’t hesitate to contact me, I love your feedback. If you enjoy my work and have an opportunity to support it financially, don’t hesistate to make a donation, it is always much appreciated. If you think that my sites can be useful to everybody learning Russian, don’t hesitate to share the links in social networks or in any other way.

Thank you for your interest and have a wonderful day! 🙂
