About

Hi!

Thank you for dropping by. My name is Valeria and I’m the author and creator of all the websites of Learn Russian 101 network.

As you might have guessed, I’m Russian. Until 2013 I lived in Saint-Petersburg, but then my life took a completely different turn and now I live in France.

Learn Russian 101 started as one site in 2010, when I tried to make my own version of still existing at the time podcast SpanishPod that helped me a lot when I was learning Spanish on my own. I wanted to do something similar and better for those who want to learn Russian.

It grew with time, I started having more ideas of what I could do, and today the network includes 8 websites where Russian learners from beginner to advanced can find free and useful materials to learn and practice with, to find Russian friends, and to learn about the Russian culture. Some of the sites run in three languages: English, Spanish and French.

When I started, my English was quite bad and I did not even have translations for the lessons I was creating. Same with Spanish and French, those languages I barely spoke at all as I just started learning them at that time. Many people helped me along the way and some continue doing it. I would not be able to do as much without that help. I’m thankful to all of them. I’m especially thankful to Luis Iglesias and Carlos Orti Hernandez for their help with Spanish translations. I’m also very thankful to my husband who took the responsibility for the French translations and gave me tons of good ideas on how I could improve.

Thanks to this hobby I learned a new skill – programming, and today this is how I make my living.

I learned so much outside of conventional schools that it confirmed me in my belief that the education should be free and available to everybody. Learn Russian 101 is a baby of love, making money with it was never a goal. However, working on the sites takes a lot of time and the expenses grew together with traffic. When the question arose whether to create some paid functionalities to support the project, I told myself that I want to make a difference in this world, at least on my level, and decided to continue developing as a completely free network.

However, without the support of the readers I’m not able to spend much time working on the sites and pay the expenses. So if you like my work and find it helpful, please support me. You can do it by buying one of the offline packages or making a donation on some of the sites. When donations become sufficient and regular, I gladly remove all the advertising from the sites.

If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m happy to help and always open to new ideas.

Thank you for your interest and have a wonderful day! 🙂
